This is a great park with fun equipment and some large open spaces to play. There is a big kids section and a gated off area for littles. However, we came today the park on March 7, 2026 and discovered that the big slide is broken with a huge hole at the bottom of the chute and cracks farther up inside. Hopefully it gets replaced sometime soon.

It’s important to know the background of this popular park. It used to be a Black community formed in the 19th century. Decades later, they were unjustly evicted to build the park. Thanks to the community, signs honor their legacy. Today, it’s a large park with plenty of green space, a large slide, and more.

Excellent, safe park, lots of options for young children. The water play area is a big draw for young ones, my grandsons are 2 & 4.

Grew up going to Lafayette park and brought my niece a few weeks back. Was pleasantly surprised to see how much it's improved since I was a child - she loves the variety of equipment and there are truly options for all ages. There's also a fourth playground on the lower level (to the left if facing the school entrance) and in the back, facing the field closer to northampton street.
