About
osé de San Martín (1778–1850) was one of the fathers of South American independence and sought the creation of an alliance of nations in South America. Argentinean citizens gave this equestrian monument to the United States in 1925, and the bronze plaque on the back of the sculpture likens San Martín to George Washington because they shared desires for democracy, justice, and liberty.

Just off the National Mall are five "Statues of Liberators." This 1924 statue of the Argentinian leader is one. It's replica of one found in n Buenos Aires. Upon its dedicated in 1925, President Calvin Coolidge spoke.
San Martin is a national Icon of Argentina. First liberated Argentina from Spain and then he crossed the Andes mountains and helped liberate Chile and Peru after.
A great monument for a great american hero.
So nice and I love the park near the memorial
