🇪🇸🇺🇸 There’s a statue of Spain’s Bernardo de Gálvez tucked away near Virginia Avenue & 21st Street NW Washington, DC. It reads: “Bernardo de Gálvez, the great Spanish soldier, carried out a courageous campaign in lands bordering the lower Mississippi. This masterpiece of military strategy lightened the pressure of the English in the war against the American settlers who were fighting for their independence. May the statue of Bernardo de Gálvez serve as a reminder that Spain offered the blood of her soldiers for the cause of American independence. Don Juan Carlos I King of Spain” Gálvez led Spanish campaigns against the British during the American Revolution, helping secure American independence. My #DAR Spanish Patriot rendered aid when he drove Texas cattle to support Gálvez’s war effort. ❤️ #History #usa #spain #spain🇪🇸

An essential part of us history that is not covered in AP history is how integral Hispanic and Seminole infantrymen were in defeating British troops in the US war for independence from British rule. Many don’t realise that most of États-Unis was novo españa. De Galvez led a battalion 100 miles in deux menses through Floridian swamps to resoundingly defeat British troops in Louisiana et Alabama. To force total capitulation and surrender by the British in 1781 in Yorktown, Virginie, de Gálvez and his armée won a décisive battu in Pensacola.

Historical memory, glory and honor for those who if I know deserve it.

A great Spanish military man, and a little-known figure in his own country. Honor and glory.
